Abstract
:
This study aims at identifying the main factors and their sub-dimensions that affect knowledge sharing among the physicians working at King Abdulaziz University Hospital in Jeddah, KSA. The study gains its importance from the fact that it uses the Grounded Theory as one of the methodologies of qualitative research to study knowledge sharing as the most important process in knowledge management. The study adopts the qualitative research using the Grounded Theory to explore the factors that affect knowledge sharing and the Content Analysis to analyze the content of the previous literature that studied the factors affecting knowledge sharing among health care sector employees in order to list the most important main and subfactors that affect knowledge sharing among physicians after undergoing the coding procedures used in qualitative research.The data were collected by conducting personal interviews with a deliberate sample of consultants working for more than 10 years at the University Hospital (n = 25) and representing different departments as well as by the researcher’s observations.The key finding of the study was the preparation of a list containing the most important factors affecting knowledge sharing from the physicians’ standpoint. The list includes seven main factors: organizational culture, organizational chart, information technology infrastructure, personal and behavioral factors, senior management support, incentives, training and development, and learning. Each main factor includes a number of sub-factors shown in a guidance model. The results also showed that the doctors have no online platform for knowledge sharing at the University Hospital.The most important recommendations of the study: specialized management to manage knowledge sharing at the University Hospital and care for the various knowledge management processes provided by all sorts of material, moral, and technical support in order for the efforts done by the senior management to be motivat
