Abstract |

The study aimed at spotting the light on the role and importance of geographic information systems (GIS) in managing different services due to its great advantages in computing and bounding sites, beside adding all the necessary attributes, preparing to set the basis of geographic data, which in turn contributing to facilitating administrative and search tasks for the information related such basis, as well as producing maps and reports in accordance with the needs of decision makers or interested parties. This was applied to the charitable organizations as a model for housing services in Jeddah City. It was through showing the current situation of charitable organization under the ordinary administrative systems and lack of proper data, then building a new geographical data base for it, aiming at helping the parties interested in the charitable organizations both who are managing its data and automatically observing it, in addition to serving other factions both those who are benefited from and interested in it either who were society members hoping to know these sites and offering aids, or those who want to get a charitable housing. The study has followed the practical approach as the main way, that some geographic information systems (GIS) programs has been used in several stages of this study such as : ArcGIS10 program and other supporting programs as Google Earth 6.1 the study has been handled through three main stages starting from collecting and preparing data needed for the study, building a geographical database for the charitable organizations then applying some adjustments and analysis to such database. the study has recorded 48 organization distributed in 22 district in Jeddah the study has achieved the expected benefits through building geographical data base for the charitable organizations which helped to collect all the data related to the charitable organizations, gathering, classifying, easily explaining , dealing with it, and making it available to the officers and those who are interested in it in the simplest and quickest way .
The researcher suggest some recommendations: the most important of all is the necessity of working on the activation of the geographic information systems (GIS) role as a technique to manage different services either locative and descriptive ones ( health, education, security, tourism….) within the interested parties as it gives a lot of opportunities and advantages in the field of managing data. |
